The starry night lie motionless
As it gaze on the still mirror of its moon.
Crushing waves gently rock
The idle boat
As its anchor lie motionless
Clinging on a dreamless harbor.
The captain walked as the wooden deck creaked of old age. The ship he and his crew is as old as he was. Or perhaps so even more older. For the sea and salt water rushes times. But then again, it may live a bit longer. Treasures buried beneath ocean waves sits still waiting for the reaper to harvest its toil.
"Can't sleep, captain?" it's was the shipwright. As usual, checking maintenance and looking for the slightest dent on the ship they sail in.
"That and I like seeing the sea this late at night," the captain replied. "Is everyone sleep, already?"
"I guess so, save for the man stationed in the birds nest as well as three of our crew guarding their evening shift," the shipwright replied.
"And the ship?" the captain asked. He is the captain and foremost after all. After the crew, it's the ship he cares about.
"All seems good, rudders, star side and port deck are in fit shape. Dents and a bit cracks here and there but can easily be fixed," the shipwright proudly answered.
"You're a good man, my friend," the captain said. "Please, keep it up. I'm apologize if I'm not being a good captain to all of you. But know this that I'm trying my best."
"You are, captain. We all know," the shipwright said. "But.. but there is something that most of the crew are bothered with. We even asked the first mate about this but she seemed to be hiding something or maybe there is something we don't know about. Are you not happy with us, captain?"
"Why wouldn't I be happy? The best crew in the world, the greatest ship, a feast every night or so. What more could I ask?"
"To forget..." the shipwright whispered.
"What?" the captain heard the shipwright correctly but just wanted to ask it again.
"What is it you want to forget, captain?" the shipwright asked. "Or is it us you want to forget?"
"You sound like the first mate, my friend," the captain replied. "But to be blunt... I wish it was that easy to forget something. Just banish away all your regrets, live a new life somewhere else. Assume different name or whatever. Or perhaps make myself be forgotten. Like you know..."
"Why would we want to forget you, captain?" the shipwright asked in shock.
"Just wishful thinking. Please, pay it no mind... just the child in me dreaming," the captain said trying to calm the shipwright.
"Who would want to forget you, captain?" the shipwright said in dismay. "You are the greatest."
"Really?" the captain said. "What deeds have I done that you don't know about? What things have I gone through that you do not recall? Please tell me all these."
"I don't understand you, captain?"
"Tell me my name..." the captain said.
