Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusion: a short character analysis of the main characters

This is the second anime that got me hook. First would be Hyouka, and third which is next to this is Saekano.

The series starts of with Yuta Togashi leaving his past life of having a Chunibyo (eight grade syndrome), one who takes imagination way too far, in a childish fantasy sense, and having a new life as a normal high school student. But to his surprised, a classmate of his will be one trying to drag him back to his having a chunibyo, which is Rikka Takanashi, the bearer of the Wicked Eye.

The first season focuses on finding the Ethereal Horizon, the thing, or rather place, that Rikka ever looked for. While the second season focuses on the budding relation between the two as well as waking up the Dark Flame Dragon that was the next evolution of Yuta's Dark Flame Master.

Different adventures happened between the two, the true cream of the anime was the relationship between the Wicked Eye and Dark Flame Master. It really melts my heart looking at how cute the couple were. It has the up and down, as typical in any relationship but it was worth the watch.

As for the Ethereal Horizon, the Dark Flame Master took Rikka there and once more made her the Wicked Eye after losing it for quite a while.

The growing up theme as well as the romance theme blended well with the silly, or rather grandiose, fantasy this series unfold to the audience.

I have yet to watch the Rikka Version film... I can guess it's going to be amazing.

Characters I want to give a certain analysis will be: Yuta, Rikka, Nibutani, Dekomori, Shichimiya and Kumin

Yuta, formerly the Dark Flame Master, decided to put away aside in order to live a normal high school student life. He tried his best to cover it all up but is failing miserably due to his connection or rather relationship with Rikka Takanashi, the bearer of the Wicked Eye. He did eventually convinced Rikka to drop her Wicked Eye and live as a normal high school student but only after realizing that it was a mistake, he took her to the Ethereal Horizon donning his cape once more as the Dark Flame Master.

He still love being the Dark Flame Master, his former self, that it shows from time to time when he suddenly wanders and speak words which immediately regretting. But was it alright to forget ones past? It's a part of you that won't change, no matter how much you try.

Rikka, the bearer of Wicked Eye, due to some past event in her life, she made it her mission to find the Ethereal Horizon no matter what. Everyone around her doesn't understand why she would go to any length just to satiate her chunibyo, but only the Dark Flame Master understood her. Though it was Yuta that helped convinced her to stop being the bearer of Wicked Eye, it was also Yuta, as the Dark Flame Master that save her.

Perhaps she's just trying her best. And she needs someone to be there by her side. Alone perhaps? Or just looking for attention.

Nibutani, formerly Mori Summer, just like  Yuta, she tried to cover up her past while trying her best not only to be a normal high school student but to be the one who stood above all, student council president. She tried for many different clubs/circles but she at some point just up and quit most of it since she was looking for something. A sense of attainable passion, if I remembered correctly, the drama club she denies having and away from the dishonesty, which the cheerleader club is nothing but facade.

Perhaps her being Mori Summer, made it hard for her to find something which would prove interesting to her except for the chunibyo club/circle Yuta and Rikka started, which she attended oftenly.

She is the first main love interest of Yuta.

Dekomori, Mjolnir Hammer, the ever faithful disciple of Rikka, the Wicked Eye, as well as a believer of Mori Summer. Her chunibyo fascination is as well as Rikka's as she's the only one that could keep up with her in terms of the wild things they have. It's really funny how the two chunibyos with the two former chunibyos deal with each from time to time.

With regards to her faith for Mori Summer, she despises Nibutani and goes to call her as fake without realizing that the Fake Summer she keeps referring to is the real Mori Summer she loves.

Her twin tails, is what resembles her twin tails.

Her being on the side Rikka and her faith on the Mori Summer, seems like she's on a bandwaggon and just joining it for fun. But was it all there is to it? Or was she just lonely?

Shichimiya, the Magical Devil Girl, the tragedy of this comedy series. Probably, or probably not, I'll write something about her in length next time. She once fell in love with the Dark Flame Master but upon learning a horrible truth, reluctantly decided not to pursue him anymore.

She's the perfect chance re-encounter. The perfect dilemma of between two clashing things while at the same time being swept away. Her principle of not saying goodbye as well as her farewell to the Dark Flame Master, gives me butterflies. It made me sad in a good way.

She chose the path of hero and in doing so, close a door to her heart. Her smile are sweet and all but when I saw her tear up.. it's all an entire different story of happy fantasy and all that with the Chunibyo series.

Lastly, the fool, Kumin, the senior of the rest of the club. It wasn't stated in the anime that she's a fool or her title is the fool, but her archetype is one.  She likes taking nap and her specialty is sleeping. But if need be, she's the one that gives best advice among her juniors. Her fascination with the Chunibyo, even though she doesn't seem to understand any of it, lead her to be the next Wicked Eye bearer. But later then gave it back to Rikka.

She can be boring at time but her dedication to the team doesn't let her left out. Even though she's actually only really good at taking naps.

---

Odd enough, certain characters in this anime reminds of characters from a certain anime... or I might be wrong.

----

Hopefully, I didn't give much spoilers for the anime, and I'm still yet to watch the Rikka Version film. If you like anime like this, fantasy at best but still centered in the reality while having a comic affair and sometimes a tragedy. I suggest giving this series a try as well as the film animation.
