I apologize if this would be a short post but I just want to talk about these certain issues showed in the anime. As it would be unjust to leave this out while focusing on the fighting as well as the fantasy aspect of the series. These theme are after all what triggered the unfortunate souls to be Magical Girls.
Also I apologize if I won't fully explain myself or if I came out rude, ignorant and have offended you.
The abuse done on a daily basis on Aya Asagiri is a cruel thing to happen. The physical beating done by Kaname Asagiri, Aya's brother had lead her to not fully grasp the definition of kindness. As it is this reason that triggered Sarina Shizukume to bullying her at school. She intended to help her at school but having misunderstood the kindness Sarina did to Aya, it lead her to think that Aya was ungrateful which paved way on her being bullied.
These things from most of her young life, Aya Asagiri put up with on a daily basis. Her fears lead her to keeping it all to her as to why she never understood the kindness Sarina offered in the first place.
At some point, I thought, why not tell it, or talk about it with other people? She had the choice, right? But then again, she was afraid. Was it that easy to just up and talk to somebody about it? The people around her showed no sympathy towards her, even her school teacher didn't know of anything that was happening. But still she keep everyone or anyone ignorant of what's happening. Was it hard to do? Or was it that easy?
Before, she acquired her powers, thoughts of suicide came into her mind. But she couldn't. It's during this time that she had a choice. But she didn't. Were she hopeful of something? Or were she just afraid. She never mentioned of getting straight to hell or being punished in case she did take her life. She wasn't afraid of the afterlife. Is she really afraid? Or were she hopeful? That someday, someone, somebody will hear her, save her, be there for her.
If people were just most emphatic, if people were just able to clearly see what was going on, would all of that have happened to her continue? Would any of it stop? Would she have been saved? If only the people around her cared. If only they knew. Would she still be abused, bullied and had suicide tendencies?
Why wasn't she chosen as site administrator if for the most part of her young life, she was suffering?
It was trauma, mayhaps, that made her unable to express her feeling more, to fight back, to keep it all in, to misunderstood those who cared for her, to not realize that people care. Well, put ourselves in her shoes, young mind and body, could we act differently?
And for all her suffering, instead of running away, suicide was the first thing to have come in mind. Where would she even go, anyway? She's alone, right?
-----
Tsuyuno Yatsumura's tragic past were slightly different. She was living a happy childhood until a certain man took it all away from her. And instead of killing her and having her reconcile with her family in the hereafter, she was scarred for left. To be traumatize to see your parents lying on a pool of blood, you as just a child powerless and the only thing you could do was cry.
Next thing she knew, after receiving her power, she found her calling in life. Revenge.
The only next tragedy to have happen to her was that her newly found reason of living got once again snatched away from her. And instead of her dealing the final blow, the coup de grace, it was taken away from her.
It's ironic though, that after she lose her purpose/calling in life, a more unfortunate soul came, saved her and gave her a new meaning in life. It was a friend.
Odd enough, after dying to protect her friends to the end, she was chosen to be a site administrator. Was it really the negativity she kept in her short life or was it her determination, her resolve to commit herself to her friend that have chosen her to become more than just a Magical Girl?
----
Maybe, that's all the unfortunate souls just wanted. A friend to be there always. To speak of dreams, fears, promises, goodbyes and hellos. Just somebody to be there. A crying shoulder, a precious touch, or just some two ears to listen to us rant about the world.
This is also the reason why I loved the character of Nijimin more than these two main heroines. She may have not live as tragic life as the two, Ayapi and Tsuyuyu, but she choice it not to be tragic. Nijimin lose not only her family but a dear precious friend,, she lived a lonely life after all that. Yet she found herself not an unfortunate soul in the end of her life. She was true in her nature.
