I supposed this episode is somewhat just a filler.. but it just ran deep. Very very deep.
The series beside focusing on the sci-fi, it also tackles on the theme of prejudice. Being a cursed child, though having powers that like of the enemy monsters, it's down is that people have prejudice towards you. Even if these children have the power to fight and defend the society, they are seen as monsters, since first and foremost, they carry with them the blood of the monsters they are supposed to fight.
Even if these children are fighting for the people, the people treat them with indifference. They can't go to school if people found about them. They treat them like animals, or even worst. Society just deemed them to be the same as the monsters who are trying to kill everyone. The government employs these troubled souls but not as an employees but only as just tools. They do not see them as human.
Rentaro Satomi sees otherwise. They may be powerful being, but they are not tools. They are human just like anyone else. He sees past who they really are, they are just children. Nothing more, nothing less.
That foreshadowing and red flag was just too sudden. The comrade at arms of Satomi even told him to not get too attached to his students. Our little girl, Enju, also a cursed child but an indispensable partner of our main hero, promised to see her classmates again, who are also cursed child. She even brought her favorite anime collection so that they'll watch it with her.
It was too late when they arrived at the open court school, a bomb was set. Police surrounded the vicinity for investigation. The casualties: all of Enju's little friends, Satomi's students.
These cursed children... they did nothing wrong. They never wanted to be the way they are, they just have no choice to be who they were. They just want to be happy. They have dreams as well, Satomi's in his last session with them asked each and everyone of them. Some maybe a bit dull, some fantastic, but whatever, they are dreams. These children have dreams. And to see them die at a young age.
What would any friend do? What would any teacher do?
It's funny how there was a scene when most of the student fell in love with Satomi. They wanted to marry him. I know Satomi sees it as a admiration of little children, but after what happened.
Satomi asked his superior if what they are doing is right, if the ones they are protecting are the ones who they should protect. Should they fight for everyone while everyone just continue to hate? His superior's answered: there is hope. Even just a little, people will change. They fight for that glint of hope.

The world is cruel... thought the Firefly King as he weep on an emotion he doesn't seem to understand. I am not a teacher, but just an observer. I do not know how teachers feel. But as a brother, as a father... or someone to be dearly respected and deeply loved, I weep for Satomi Rentaro. He wanted to see the beauty of the world. He wanted everyone to see it's beauty... but the world is just too cruel.
