Domestic Girlfriend - a better written review

I just watched Domestic Girlfriend (Domestic no Kanojo) and the issues it posed weren't up to my understanding. Perhaps I'm just too immature for it. The love between the two star crossed lover got realized but a part of me saying that what they are doing is wrong. Perhaps a prejudice on my part or a prejudice born out of the reality we live in.

The scene when Natsuo and Hina were in the beach and were about to commit suicide just to show him the manner of commitment they had to be in and what the reality will do if their relationship got out wasn't as effective to me at least. Or perhaps that's just the best way to show it to Natsuo at the time. That them having a relationship, a resolve will be the same way as committing suicide, or perhaps the commitment to suicide that Hina wanted to show as a resolve.

That for her, irregardless of status and whatsoever, the resolve is what should matter, till death do us part, as the lines goes in marriage. And when Natsuo couldn't commit to it, it just showed he hasn't grown yet.

What triggered her to reciprocate her love for him perhaps was she protecting her sister, Rui, from Natsuo? Or did she acted childishly, he is her man, after all, and her jealously led her to make a convenience for the two of them. Rui didn't know of this, it was also at time that her feelings for Natsuo had fully materialized.

It was a great shock to her when she found out two things, the first novel Natsuo made was written for Hina and Rui finding out he was after all her concern and caring for him, he lied.

It could have gotten harsher when Natsuo tried find her but it was odd that Rui, despite her cold nature, she was weak. She gave her a kiss, Natsuo tried stopping as she pleaded her that it would be the last time. She could have left him there and there, give him a beating. Blackmail him and all things just to get back at the two. But she didn't. Despite all that have happened, she is kind.

The next issue I want to point out was the relationship status they had or rather end of it. It could have gone darker when Hina was called in the school administration office. She could have been torment, blackmailed or whatsoever. But nothing happened. She knelt with her head bowed down on the ground and accepted punishment. She was to transfer from school and severing ties she had with her family and any one in the school.

She was smiling on the day of the ceremony as she announce her transfer to the whole school. Of course the classes were in shock, but nothing else was shown, at least to the student. Only the fact that the two lovers as well as Rui, had a clue as to the sudden decision.

I guess, it was after all foreshadowed in the most part of the series that their love is doomed to fail. Effectively eliminating any emotional investment we had for their relationship, or at least to me.

The impact on the Natsuo was grave as he holed himself up in his room for the entirety of the break. Until his friends gave him the support needed for him to move on.

It was amazing that from the start, Natsuo being a writer, he used his ability to cure himself of this anguish he was feeling. His first novel perhaps was a love letter for Hina and the second one he made, the winning piece 'Well, See you,' also a love letter for Hina this time, perhaps his farewell to her.

As for my previous post, stating that this reminds me of the film animation Garden of Words, in a same way it does. But instead of a student yearning to be a shoemaker, Domestic no Kanojo is about a boy yearning to be a novelist. Both of whom, got left behind, but both never stopped in what they were doing. Natsuo may have took a break but after that he wrote a literary winning piece. They did their best, after all.

As for the Firefly King's yet again inability to cry, he was too caught up with the prejudice of the world that they deemed the lovers unworthy of his tears and at the same time, he is too innocent to call what he just saw as love. Perhaps they might have been beyond love, but he doesn't know.

He skimmed a bit in the future of these lovers, and mayhaps his inability shows of great and better story hereafter for them. A bit of spoilers (manga) spoiled him to not cry, I guess.
