I got the name and character of "The Firefly King" from watching anime music videos of this anime film, Hotarubi no Mori e "Into the Forest of the Firefly Lights." It's a cute story of an encounter between a mountain spirit and a little girl, of how only the two would meet ONLY during summer time, of how their distance and brief moment of solitude grew to just being strangers to love. It is unfortunate that the movie had to end that way.
I wish the mountain gods have given Gin, the mountain spirit, a second chance. Then again, it was already his second chance and that unfortunate event have caused him to realize his dream.
Superficially, it would seem absurd that a teenage boy falling in love with a kindergarten child... But it seems the case is, two childhood friends falling in love with each other, sort of fairy tale story.
Whatever it is, I would have wanted to change how the story ended. It ends with the girl crying over the loss of her love one and a monologue of how she will suffer through it but will still be strong. She was happy in her tone as she said it, but I feel something empty. Perhaps a void that cannot be filled.
I wish to rewrite it. I don't like endings to be sad. But.. that's how the story goes.
The hero, Gin, had achieve his dreams. But as a viewer... as the Firefly King, it hurts so much to accept it.
It all happened fast. It happened right after their first kiss. It happened right after his confession to her. It happened after the day they promised each other that they will never ever forget.
They will live on. In her heart. In all the audience heart.
If only the Firefly King existed, he could've rewritten all of it. Save Gin...
But that's just me, being immature. Then again, wouldn't all dream be just childhood fantasies?
