Please be safe

"Please be safe," her voice sounded hoarse. She was tired and so was I. "Please, just a bit more. Hold on."

But I want to know. I want to go. I want for us to leave. I can't stay her any longer. These thoughts raced through my mind. I have no need to go but I just felt I have to. I don't know why but I just felt like I have to be else where.

She held my hand. Her soft, tiny hands held tight as she could to my rough grown up hand. She doesn't want me to leave. She doesn't want to be alone.

I lifted my hand and patted her head. She's a good girl. I'm sure she wants nothing more but not be alone. And that's why she wants me here. Safe with her. But that can't go on forever. We need to go. We need to get out of here. We must save ourselves. Yet her hands felt like it was here where we'll be save. It was here where it's safe. We don't need to go just yet. We can stay here for a bit longer.

"I want to leave, now," I told her. Though it's what I wanted to say, I forced it to come out. A part of me believed her.

Her hands tightened her hold on mine.

"We're safe here, right?" she said. "No need to go out yet. I'm sure help will arrive sooner or later. We just have to wait. We'll be safe here. I know."

Her last words sounded force. Did she doubt herself?

The knocks on the door grew even louder. The villains are outside. Our barricade soon to give in. Should I really have to go? Or should I have faith? Though I'm sure of it, she's losing her faith, sooner or later.
