Have you ever heard the legend of the boy who never lie? He was both brave and reckless. So often time he'd get hurt and at times lost. But never once he broke a promise. That's why, everyone knew him as the boy who never lie. Everyone loves him because of that.
One day, it just happened so sudden. He fell in love. At that time, he became afraid. He matured a bit, even so he continued to never lie. That's why everyone love him. But little did everyone knew, the boy who never lie, was lying to himself.
He grew distant of everyone. He was in love but was not brave enough to admit it. He became cautious. Everyone noticed it. He changed. Mayhaps he is no longer that boy who never lie.
"Pray tell me, what bothers you," one day the wind whispered in his ears.
The boy who never lie suddenly gave a forced smile. It was bitter.
"It's nothing, I'm alright," the boy replied. It was his first lie. But he was not aware of it. It was the truth. The truth that others would want to hear.
The wind gently caressed the boy's hair and left. The wind knew.
"Hello," the trees in the forest spoke. "Are you happy?"
Once more, the boy gave a bitter smile. He nodded. His second lie. He wasn't happy.
"Are you sad?" a butterfly gently landed on his shoulder.
The boy shook his head. His next lie. He was sad.
His lies kept on and on. He was no longer the boy who never lie. For now he was liar. Even so, everyone loved him.
One day on a pleasant evening. The boy took a walk down the river. It was had been a routine for him whenever he was sad. Though he doesn't understand why. Was it because of his love? Was it because he lies? Was it because he was too immature to understand of anything that's happening.
"Say," a girl's voice was heard behind him. "Pray tell me, will it rain later?"
He doesn't know the answer but he nodded. The truth was already out. He was no more but a little liar. He's a liar. So a simple lie like that should be what he is doing
"Really?" the girl said. "Might you join me? If it's going to rain, I don't want us to be soaked, alright?"
The girl took his hand and it was only then that he noticed. She was the girl she fell in love with. She dragged her across the field, climbed a little hill on their way to her house. But before they could reach her home, the sky gave in and it started to rain.
The boy was startled. He lied and yet, his lie came true. How was that possible?
"You're the boy who never lie, am I right?" the girl said. "I supposed it's true then. All my friends were doubting you, and yet here you are proving yourself."
"I lied," the boy said.
"Are you sure? You said it's going to rain earlier, right? And it just so happens it did," the girl said. "Where's the lie in that?"
"I didn't know that it would rain," the boy replied.
"Really?" the girl said. "You must be lucky then."
The boy only then noticed. She was the first person she lied to. He wanted to leave, ashamed of what he did.
"Wait, before you go," the girl suddenly stopped him. "Will you tell me, a lie?"
"I just did," the boy said.
"It happened. So you didn't lie. So please, tell me, a lie," the girl asked.
"Why?"
"I don't know. Somehow, I just want to believe whatever you are going to say. Be it a lie or the truth. I just want to believe you. So please, tell me one. Tell me a lie."
This was the first time he was asked to do this. To lie. He never lied a single thing on his whole life and now this? He might be lying of things to not let others bother him. But what is this demand she is asking? And of all, the person asking was the girl she's in love with.
The rain suddenly stopped. The wind grew still. Suddenly, it was quiet. The whole world listen. Everyone loves the boy who never lie and hearing his first lie will be something they'd be wanting to hear.
The boy who never lie took a deep a breath and with all the courage in himself shouted:
"I don't love you," the boy lied.
"Was that a lie?" the girl said. The boy nodded. It was the truth. "I never knew. You're not somebody who tell a lie. But right now, you're someone who grants wishes. I love you."
The whole world loves the little boy. That even if he were to lie, all the world will conspire to make him not break his word. Be it to rain when rain is impossible or a love that is somehow unrequited. The whole world will conspire, because the boy who never lie, is loved.
