A Firefly's Monologue #8

"Why do you travel?"

"The same with every travellers there are: to go somewhere," said the firefly.

"We all do that. So am I traveller too?"

"Do you want to go somewhere?"

"I.. I guess so, yes."

"Do you happen to know why?"

"It's because I need to be there where ever I want to go."

"And?"

"Nothing else."

The firefly smiled.

"Memories. We all travel to get somewhere. We all travel to learn new things. We all travel to keep ourselves burning. We all travel to live. But essentially: it is memories that enrich our soul; it is memories that satisfy our heart.

"Do you know why? Memories could save our lives."

"How?"

"Don't you remember? It is one of the many things we could pay for, pay for something in exchange for something."

"Memories? Do you mean the things we've learned, gained and experienced?"

The firefly smiled. He wanted to laugh but decided not to.

"You have not travelled enough to see the strings like I do," the firefly said.
